Vietnam and Canada have formalized an Action Plan to advance their Strategic Partnership, emphasizing enhanced collaboration across a wide array of sectors. The agreement was reached during talks in Ottawa between Vietnamese Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung and Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand, aiming to transform the leaders’ commitments into actionable programs and projects.
The newly adopted Action Plan encompasses numerous fields such as political and diplomatic relations, trade and investment, science and technology, digital transformation, healthcare, education, energy security, sustainable development, transport, infrastructure, defense and security, law enforcement, and cultural and people-to-people exchanges. To ensure effective execution, the ministers agreed to periodically review and update the plan, calling for improved coordination between government agencies, local authorities, and businesses.
Both countries are set to bolster existing bilateral consultation mechanisms while exploring additional strategic dialogue frameworks. Moreover, discussions included regional and international issues where Vietnam and Canada pledged to enhance cooperation through platforms like the United Nations, ASEAN, and APEC. They also expressed mutual support for each other’s roles in hosting APEC meetings in 2027 and 2029, with Vietnam backing Canada’s hosting of the Francophonie Summit in 2028.
