Vietnam’s Ambassador to Cambodia, Nguyễn Minh Vũ, has undertaken a significant diplomatic mission to the Cambodian provinces of Stung Treng and Kratie, aiming to bolster cooperation between Vietnamese and northeastern Cambodian localities. The visit focused on strengthening bilateral ties in various sectors and assessing the role of Vietnamese businesses and the Vietnamese-origin community in the region.
During his meetings with provincial leaders, discussions centered on expanding partnerships in critical areas such as trade, agriculture, infrastructure, energy, and investment. Cambodian officials acknowledged the deepening connections with Vietnamese provinces through cooperative agreements and shared business initiatives, which have fostered notable development projects. The province of Kratie, in particular, commended the progress achieved through diplomatic and socio-economic collaboration with Vietnam. This includes joint efforts in infrastructure enhancement and the repatriation of remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who perished during the Cambodian conflict.
Ambassador Vũ praised the contributions of Vietnamese enterprises engaged in sectors like agriculture, mining, and rubber production within Cambodia. These ventures have not only facilitated local economic growth but also reinforced the bilateral relationship. In Stung Treng, local authorities outlined the province’s potential for investment in high-tech agriculture and eco-tourism, urging Vietnamese businesses to explore these promising opportunities.
In addition to economic discussions, Ambassador Vũ engaged with representatives from the Vietnamese-origin community to address their legal and livelihood concerns. He encouraged adherence to local laws and emphasized the importance of educational support and sustainable development within the community. Currently, Vietnam stands as one of Cambodia’s largest foreign investors, with over 200 projects and a registered capital exceeding $3 billion, underscoring the significant economic linkages between the two nations.
