Vietnam has reiterated its support for Myanmar through the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), highlighting the importance of the Five-Point Consensus as the main framework for achieving peace and stability in the country. This commitment was emphasized by Vietnamese Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung during an informal meeting of ASEAN foreign ministers held in Bangkok. Vietnam recognizes Myanmar as a vital member of ASEAN and is committed to fostering national reconciliation, economic recovery, and improved governance in the nation.

Minister Lê Hoài Trung urged ASEAN to take more practical and tangible actions, including regular dialogue and direct engagement with Myanmar. These efforts aim to closely monitor the situation and encourage significant progress. Vietnam expressed its willingness to collaborate with the 2026 ASEAN Chair and other member states to address Myanmar’s social challenges, combat transnational crime, and strengthen regional cooperation.

The ASEAN ministers collectively reaffirmed their dedication to supporting a solution led by Myanmar through ongoing dialogue and the effective implementation of the Five-Point Consensus. This approach aims to promote peace, stability, and sustainable development not only in Myanmar but across the region.

Vietnam’s proactive stance reflects its commitment to engaging with its regional partners in addressing the complexities facing Myanmar. By emphasizing the need for consistent communication and cooperation, ASEAN hopes to facilitate meaningful progress in Myanmar’s journey toward peace and development.
