Vietnamese Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng has urged the establishment of a highly skilled and swiftly mobilizable international search and rescue team to bolster Vietnam’s participation in global humanitarian and disaster relief efforts. At a ceremony celebrating Vietnam’s rescue mission to Venezuela after two earthquakes, he commended the 124-member team from the military and public security sectors for their dedication and humanitarian service.
During their mission in Venezuela, the Vietnamese team successfully recovered 57 victims and delivered 5.6 tonnes of relief supplies. They also provided medical assistance to over 130 residents and offered additional financial support to the affected communities. This commendable performance was recognized with Venezuela awarding the team the Hero of Venezuela Medal for their significant contributions.
The Prime Minister emphasized the need for Vietnam to enhance its rescue capabilities by investing in modern equipment, specialized training, and better coordination. He also highlighted the importance of forming stronger international partnerships to support these efforts. Furthermore, he called for improved support and recognition for personnel involved in overseas humanitarian missions.
This initiative is part of a broader strategy to ensure that Vietnam can play a more prominent role in international disaster response and humanitarian missions. By building a professional and elite rescue force, the country aims to respond more effectively to global emergencies and provide valuable assistance where it is most needed.
