Tolstoy International Peace Prize. The announcement was made by Valery Gergiev, the jury chairman and General Director of the Bolshoi Theatre, who commended Vietnam for its impressive economic growth while maintaining its cultural heritage in an interconnected world. The award underscores Lâm’s pivotal role in advancing Vietnam’s development and his advocacy for global justice, adherence to international law, and the promotion of peaceful dialogue in international affairs.
Prominent figures on the jury, including Vladimir Tolstoy, Director General of the State Museum of L.N. Tolstoy and a descendant of the famed Russian author, French public figure Pierre de Gaulle, and South African parliamentarian Lindiwe Sisulu, stressed the significance of upholding the humanitarian values endorsed by Tolstoy. They praised Vietnam’s transformation from a war-torn nation into one of the Asia-Pacific region’s fastest-growing economies, serving as a beacon of peace and sustainable development for other nations.
The Lev N. Tolstoy International Peace Prize, now in its third edition, honors individuals who have made substantial contributions to peace and the enhancement of international understanding. The selection of the laureate is made by an international council consisting of notable political, cultural, and public figures from countries including Argentina, Belarus, China, France, India, Japan, Russia, and South Africa.
