Vietnam and the World Bank have reiterated their dedication to enhancing collaboration on water security, climate resilience, and sustainable development. This affirmation came during a meeting in Hanoi between Deputy Prime Minister Hồ Quốc Dũng and senior officials from the World Bank. The Vietnamese government acknowledged the World Bank’s long-standing contributions in various sectors, including infrastructure, environmental protection, agriculture, and sustainable development. They underlined that projects supported by the World Bank have been instrumental in improving water resource management, ensuring food security, and advancing climate adaptation efforts throughout the nation.
Deputy Prime Minister Dũng emphasized that water security is a strategic priority for Vietnam, particularly in the face of increasing climate-related challenges, especially in the Mekong Delta region. He expressed appreciation for the World Bank’s “Water for the Future” initiative and showed enthusiasm for expanding long-term cooperation in water management and climate resilience. This initiative is seen as critical in assisting Vietnam to navigate the challenges posed by climate change.
The World Bank, in turn, confirmed its commitment to continue supporting Vietnam through financial assistance, technical support, policy advice, and international expertise. Officials from the bank highlighted that water security and climate adaptation will be central elements in their forthcoming partnership framework with Vietnam. This commitment underscores the World Bank’s strategic focus on addressing pressing environmental issues in collaboration with Vietnam.
Both parties also explored ways to strengthen cooperation in areas like climate finance, sustainable water management, disaster resilience, and green development. They emphasized the importance of accelerating projects that support vulnerable communities and promote long-term environmental sustainability. This discussion reflects a mutual understanding of the urgent need for comprehensive and collaborative approaches to tackle environmental and climate-related challenges.
