Vietnam Pledges to Enhance ASEAN–Russia Strategic Partnership

Vietnam has underscored its expanding influence in fortifying ASEAN-Russia relations, following the ASEAN–Russia Commemorative Summit, which celebrated 35 years of dialogue between the two regions. Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung highlighted Vietnam’s pivotal role in the summit’s achievements, which aimed at elevating ASEAN’s centrality and bolstering the strategic partnership with Russia.

Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng led the Vietnamese delegation, emphasizing the importance of dialogue, cooperation, and adherence to international law for peaceful dispute resolution. The delegation put forward proposals to enhance collaboration in vital sectors such as energy, trade, transportation connectivity, agriculture, and digital transformation. New frameworks were adopted during the summit to enhance ASEAN–Russia cooperation through 2030, with energy identified as a key pillar of the partnership.

In a move reflecting Vietnam’s commitment to future regional cooperation, the country announced plans to host the ASEAN–Russia Young Diplomats Summit in 2027. This initiative aims to nurture the next generation of leaders and strengthen ties between ASEAN and Russia. On the sidelines of the summit, Prime Minister Hưng engaged in discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin, where both reaffirmed their dedication to deepening the Vietnam–Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Conversations between Vietnam and Russia focused on expanding collaborative efforts in several domains, including energy, trade, infrastructure, science and technology, education, and transportation. Vietnam emphasized that the outcomes of the summit are expected to enhance ASEAN–Russia relations, contributing to regional stability and fostering new avenues for economic growth and cooperation across Eurasia.
