From August 3 to August 24, Vietnam’s 16th National Assembly will convene its first extraordinary session in Hanoi, focusing on an extensive legislative agenda and significant national projects. Lawmakers are set to address 33 items on the agenda, which include the approval of 15 draft laws and four draft resolutions. In addition, there will be initial readings for seven other bills along with discussions on seven critical national matters.
The proposed legislation encompasses a variety of sectors, notably petroleum, urban development, anti-money laundering, telecommunications, customs, investment, publishing, and national defense. This wide-ranging legislative effort underscores the assembly’s commitment to addressing key issues affecting Vietnam’s future development and regulatory landscape.
In addition to legislative deliberations, the assembly will evaluate several major infrastructure and development projects. These include plans for the Hanoi Ring Road No. 5 and adjustments to the Lào Cai–Hà Nội–Hải Phòng railway project. Attention will also be given to the Ninh Thuận nuclear power project, as well as the establishment of two new cities, Quảng Ninh and Bắc Ninh, reflecting ongoing efforts to enhance urban development and regional connectivity.
The session will also consider special policy mechanisms that pertain to renewable energy and the digital transformation, along with projects related to APEC 2027. The assembly’s focus on these areas highlights Vietnam’s strategic priorities in fostering sustainable energy solutions, advancing technological infrastructure, and preparing for significant international events.
