Vietnam and Denmark have elevated their bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, marking a significant expansion in cooperation across multiple sectors such as trade, investment, technology, defense, and sustainable development. The agreement was formalized during Vietnamese President and Communist Party General Secretary To Lam’s state visit to Denmark from October 19 to 21, 2026, coinciding with the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
This new partnership builds on the existing Comprehensive Partnership established in 2013 and the Green Strategic Partnership launched in 2023. It aims to broaden political dialogue, enhance parliamentary exchanges, and boost economic collaboration. Key areas of focus include renewable energy, green technology, digital transformation, manufacturing, healthcare, education, and transportation.
Both countries have committed to encouraging business investments, strengthening supply chains, and improving market access through current trade agreements. A central element of the partnership is the deepening of cooperation on climate action, energy efficiency, and renewable energy project development, supporting Vietnam’s ambition to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
The agreement also covers maritime security, cybersecurity, research, vocational training, agriculture, and public health, reflecting a broad spectrum of collaborative efforts. Vietnam and Denmark have reaffirmed their dedication to international law, multilateral cooperation, and the peaceful resolution of disputes, while also expressing support for regional stability and stronger cooperation with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
To operationalize their commitments, both governments will develop action plans aimed at translating the partnership into practical cooperation. By fostering these collaborative efforts, Vietnam and Denmark aim to strengthen their diplomatic and economic ties, benefiting both nations as they navigate global challenges and opportunities.
