Vietnam and Cambodia are set to bolster their joint efforts in combating cross-border crime following an agreement reached by police forces from Vietnam’s Tây Ninh Province and Cambodia’s Svay Rieng, Prey Veng, and Tboung Khmum provinces. This decision, made during a conference held in Tây Ninh on Friday, aims to enhance security and public order along the nations’ shared borders.
Officials from the four provincial police forces convened to review past collaboration and strategize on improving their fight against criminal activities such as drug and human trafficking, smuggling, money laundering, and online fraud. Emphasizing the necessity for direct communication and regular meetings, the officials pledged to ensure swift information exchange and prompt handling of cross-border crime cases.
The agreement outlines plans to intensify patrols and surveillance of border trails and crossings, a move aimed at curbing illegal entries and exits that could aid organized transnational crime. Additionally, the forces intend to enhance cooperation in tackling terrorism, arms trafficking, and high-tech crime, as well as emerging non-traditional security threats.
The conference concluded with the signing of a memorandum of cooperation, a formal step towards reinforcing their commitment to crime prevention and maintaining order in the border areas. This memorandum is expected to lay the groundwork for more coordinated and effective law enforcement operations between the two countries.
