Vietnam and the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) are set to enhance their collaborative efforts following discussions between Vietnamese Ambassador Phạm Hùng Tâm and ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr. This agreement aims to bolster connections between Hà Nội, Ho Chi Minh City, and Canberra, with an emphasis on fostering partnerships in renewable energy, innovation, education, tourism, and smart urban development.

Ambassador Tâm expressed optimism about Barr’s forthcoming visit to Hà Nội and Ho Chi Minh City, viewing it as a catalyst for new collaborative opportunities. He put forward the idea of establishing a formal friendship and cooperation agreement between Hà Nội and the ACT, which would lay the groundwork for sustained collaboration across various sectors.

Chief Minister Barr, preparing for his inaugural visit to Vietnam, highlighted the nation’s significance as a priority economic partner within the ACT’s international engagement strategy. He showed support for the proposed sister-city relationship with Hà Nội, underscoring the potential for joint initiatives in green transition, electric transport, and renewable energy to advance net-zero emissions targets by 2050.

In addition to these strategic initiatives, Barr also indicated his readiness to engage in public diplomacy activities during future visits from senior Vietnamese leaders to Australia. This commitment underscores a mutual interest in deepening ties and exploring new avenues for cooperation between the regions.
