Vietnam and Azerbaijan are seeking to enhance their strategic partnership through the expansion of trade and travel links, following high-level talks in Baku. On October 14, Vietnamese Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva during her visit to attend the seventh Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA). The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation across key sectors.
Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the Vietnam-Azerbaijan Strategic Partnership, which was established after Vietnamese Party General Secretary To Lam’s visit to Azerbaijan in 2025. The leaders identified several areas for potential growth, including economic, trade, and investment opportunities, particularly in oil and gas, energy, transport, agriculture, tourism, education, science, and technology. Joint energy projects and encouraging business investments were also key topics of discussion.
To facilitate these initiatives, both sides agreed to enhance high-level exchanges, improve coordination between government agencies, and more effectively implement existing bilateral agreements. They are considering visa exemptions for ordinary passport holders and the establishment of direct air routes to boost travel, tourism, and business exchanges between the two countries.
The discussions also emphasized cooperation in culture, education, mining, and aluminum production, alongside efforts to strengthen people-to-people ties. Additionally, Vietnam and Azerbaijan pledged to deepen coordination at regional and international forums, support multilateralism, and uphold the United Nations Charter and international law.
