Vietnam has underscored its expanding influence in fostering cooperation between ASEAN and Russia, following the 35th anniversary of dialogue relations commemorated at the ASEAN–Russia Commemorative Summit. Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung highlighted Vietnam’s pivotal role in the summit’s success, emphasizing its efforts to promote ASEAN’s centrality and bolster the strategic partnership with Russia.
Led by Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng, the Vietnamese delegation focused on dialogue, cooperation, peaceful dispute resolution, and adherence to international law. Vietnam proposed enhancing collaboration in critical areas such as energy, trade, transport connectivity, agriculture, and digital transformation. The summit concluded with the adoption of new frameworks designed to strengthen ASEAN–Russia cooperation through 2030, positioning energy as a significant pillar of the partnership.
In a move reflecting its commitment to nurturing future regional cooperation, Vietnam announced plans to host the ASEAN–Russia Young Diplomats Summit in 2027. This initiative underscores Vietnam’s dedication to advancing regional ties and fostering the next generation of diplomatic leaders.
During the summit, Prime Minister Hưng engaged in discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin, reinforcing the mutual commitment to deepening the Vietnam–Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Their dialogue focused on expanding cooperation across various sectors including energy, trade, infrastructure, science and technology, education, and transport.
Vietnam affirmed that the summit’s achievements would enhance ASEAN–Russia relations, contribute to regional stability, and open new avenues for economic growth and collaboration across Eurasia. The outcomes of the summit are expected to pave the way for strengthened ties and increased opportunities for both regions.
