Vietnam’s Party General Secretary and State President Tô Lâm has set an ambitious agenda for Hà Nội, urging the city to pursue faster economic growth alongside sustainable development and improved living standards. In a recent meeting with city officials, Tô Lâm commended Hà Nội for its advancements in institutional reforms, infrastructure development, and administrative efficiency. However, he also highlighted several challenges, including slower-than-expected growth and the underutilization of resources, as well as delays in major urban projects.
Tô Lâm emphasized the need for Hà Nội to tap into dormant resources and expedite essential infrastructure projects. He also called for enhanced support for businesses and the tourism sector, alongside fostering innovation and improving public services. Key focus areas identified include alleviating traffic congestion, addressing pollution issues, expanding housing availability, and investing in education, healthcare, and digital transformation.
As part of its economic objectives, Hà Nội aims to achieve a Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) growth of 11% by 2026. This target follows the city’s impressive economic performance in the first half of the current year, where it recorded an 8.22% growth rate, surpassing the national average.
Despite the progress, Tô Lâm acknowledged that there is more work to be done to meet the city’s ambitious goals. By addressing the existing challenges and capitalizing on untapped opportunities, Hà Nội can ensure a trajectory of robust economic growth while enhancing the quality of life for its residents.
