Vietnam, Malaysia Boost Defense Ties, Enhance Regional Collaboration

Vietnam and Malaysia are enhancing their defence cooperation efforts as part of a broader strategy to fortify bilateral relations and contribute to stability in the region. In a recent meeting in Hanoi, Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister, General Phan Văn Giang, engaged in discussions with Malaysia’s outgoing Ambassador, Dato’ Tan Yang Thai, commending him for his significant contributions to strengthening the collaborative ties between the two nations.

General Giang noted the advancements made in defence relations, which include regular military exchanges, policy dialogues, and joint training initiatives. He also highlighted the importance of their collaboration in various international and multilateral settings. This progress underscores the growing partnership between Vietnam and Malaysia in defence matters.

Further emphasizing the importance of this relationship, the Vietnamese defence leader advocated for the continuation of existing agreements and called for enhanced engagement through high-level meetings and established defence cooperation frameworks. He extended an invitation to Malaysia’s defence leaders and relevant companies to attend the Vietnam International Defence Expo 2026, an event scheduled to take place in Hanoi.

Outgoing Ambassador Tan Yang Thai expressed gratitude for the support provided by Vietnam’s defence ministry and military during his tenure. He also voiced optimism about the future of defence ties between the two countries, anticipating further growth that would contribute to regional peace and prosperity.
